Summer Learner Journey, Day 2.

For day 2 summer learner journey we are to make similes. Here are my similes shared in a story.....

I collapsed over the fence that marked my property, stumbling onto my knees like a dead fly. I turned around facing the fence, my bolstering veins beating louder than any drum could imagine. There stood a fierce intimidating dog, it's face stern like a scrunched paper. The dog maneuvered back slowly as if it were reversing like a car, still keeping an eye contact. I stood up shaken like a bottle of juice. The dog came to a sharp halt. Then, the ever so teasing puzzle was solved. It was too late. The dog ran towards the fence and pounced over it like a kangaroo. Like a scared fish running from a shark, I ran into my bunker like house, where I slammed the door shut, relieved and calm. A growl in the kitchen made me turn. What? there can't be a dog in my kitchen. Is my security that bad. My life is as bad as a horror filmImage result for car clipartImage result for dog clipart

The wonderful traits of being in a lovable family

The wonderful traits of being in a lovable family.

Families, the pinnacle of virtues, the support to a household. Being in a family may be in a roller coaster but then again, that's why we're here. To enjoy the ride. Knowing what makes a family may help tell what doesn't make a family. Thus, resolving the issue resulting in a, "Perfect" family.

Most families are comfortable acting natural in front of each other. They can laugh, cry, smile and frown with each other showing a perfect bond. This allows them to show any amount of emotion at will. Their bond is like no other. If a child came across a terrible problem at school (a bully for example) the child would easily be able to talk about it with their family. Being able to not hide secrets within their family helps break down all walls of anxiety.

One of the most important virtues in a stable family is love. Love is one of the reasons why you are able to forgive and forget a problem that one of you fellow relatives caused. Love mixed with forgiveness creates an unbreakable relationship between you and your family. Say you failed a test and your scores were unbelievably lower than the Mariana trench. Well, although you may have got a growl, chances are their love was not affected in any way (Just their mood).

"Mum, I was the one who broke the glass cup…." That very sentence although shows that the character has told his mum that he broke the glass cup, it also tells, well..shows something else. It shows that the person is honest. Honesty is the act of telling the truth. If you broke a glass cup, admitting it to your family is called honesty. Honesty is kind of the step before forgiveness as it's usually the reason you would have to be forgiven.

Finally, the most hereditary virtue. Respectfulness. Respecting the elders/everyone was a virtue passed down/taught through discipline or pure common sense by our family. Without any respect where would our religion lead to? Would we still worship God? Will we treat the elders in a proper way? Well, with respect these questions are answered. With respect we would be able to have an infinite amount of faith towards God. We would be able to treat the elders with love and compassion. This is what makes families special. They are most likely the reason to why we have good manners.

It is through family members that we find our true selves. They help shape ourselves to be the best we can be. They inspire us, teach us and learn from us. It's like at the start of this explanation……..Families are the pinnacle of virtues.

The treasure box

As I lay in the ever blinding snow with my father I couldn't help but feel overcome with
dread and fear as if I was sinking into darkness. I sunk into the snow trying to comfort myself
to sleep telling myself that all is a facade and that the outcome, the end of my life would be far
greater than my current situation Despite my fighting spirit I was broken down into tears eventually
crying myself to sleep. As the sun rose, my spirit settled resulting in me feeling empty hearted. As
I attended the funeral I noticed that the surrounding villagers became just blank faces. I felt alone.
Until I heard a whisper lighter than a breeze. The words that were being spoken widen my eyes like
a reaching hand from heaven impulsing he away from the darkness, launching me into the sky.
He said, "I will always be with you".

Leaving the village (Narrative)

I can smell the polluted air, the ashes of friends and family. My ears can pick up the sound of
cries coming from the suffering. I can see the never ending trail of footprints left by the villagers.
I feel uncomfortable as the snow swallows my feet.

My belongings are packed, I'm ready to leave. I see flames emerging from a distant building,
glowing in the ever coldest night. I myself feel fine but my appearance would say otherwise.
Not long after leaving the village I start to stumble. Blinded by snow I struggle to know where I am going.
Despite the mountains of snow I feel heat climbing into my body. With the immense heat I
couldn't help but remove layers of clothing. I now only have a t-shirt and shorts on. I continue to
walk before stumbling and falling unconscious.

I wake up in a bed, confused, not knowing where I am. I seem to be in a small room surrounded by old
family photos. On my right I see a fireplace with emerging flames engulfing the fire wood.
There is only one door, and it's opposite to me on the other side of the room. I swiftly remove the layers
of blanket and slowly approach the door. Before reaching the door, I hear a squeak. The door
knob twists and a person opens the door.

I quickly analyse my surroundings hoping to find some sort of weapon. I approach the fireplace as
I see a pile of wood stacked onto the wall. In a rush I grab a piece off the stack and turn around to see
not a monster, guard or man but a little child.

"Follow," says the boy quietly as he turns and exits the room. Still holding the wood I followed the
boy out of the room and into some sort of kitchen. There, many people are seated and standing staring
at me.

An elderly person walks forward out of the pile of people and explained that I was
lying in the snow right next to the entrance of their village. They assumed I had hypothermia so
they relocated me to the only available room. Thanks to these villagers my life was saved. Everybody
in the village came to welcome me and by their faces, it seemed that they were pleased to see me.

I'm still planning to find my way home but for the meanwhile…….. I'll stay.

The forest is gloomy!

The forest is sunless with trees spreading branches from left right and centre. The setting is bumpy and rough with small damp hills. It is peaceful and quiet except for the sound of cicadas rubbing their legs together and leaves rustling against each other. There is a damp and muddy smell and also very strong scent of flowers. The forest is cluttered with twigs, litter and leaves. It is calm with a flowing breeze shaking the leaves and the branches.

Learning Intention: We are learning to write a description.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I write descriptive sentences using appropriate adjectives to describe the forest.

The cake will be so decious!

I'm so excited! One dazzling Saturday, my mum and I hopped in the car quickly to go to Sylvia park to do some shopping for my cousin's birthday party and buy some food for us to eat.

We went in a tiny red car and it only took us five minutes to get there because we live very to Sylvia park. When we got to Sylvia park, I stepped out the car and followed my mum into the shopping centre. Once we got inside, my mum said that we needed to go to Pak n save to buy food for the house.

We got, a loaf of bread, some cold milk, healthy fruits and delicious vegetables. After that, my mum and I went to Toy World to get my cousin a present for his birthday.
I got him a packet of enormous colourful toy cars, because he really loves to play with cars and my mum got him a frightening pirate sword and a towering tall hat. After we paid for our presents we slowly left the store.

A while later, my mum and I went to the cake store to get a cake for my cousin. Inside I saw a lot of delectable cakes. There were chocolate cakes, strawberry cakes and so much more. My mum told me that I should choose his cake. I choose a sweet strawberry cake with cherries on the side, because I knew that he liked strawberries

Once we got home, I quickly put the shopping in the cupboard like a cheetah. I like going shopping with my mum.

My favourite part of the day was when I went to the cake store. I liked it because I liked it because I got to choose any cake for my cousin.

Learning Intention: We are learning to use descriptive language.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I use adjectives, verbs and adverbs to explain my day at Sylvia Park.

I want to go to Chipmunks again!

I'm so excited! One pouring Sunday, my mum, dad, brother and I hopped quickly in our small red car to go to chipmunks for my brother's and cousin's birthday celebration.

It was far away in Pakuranga which meant that it was going to be a long drive. So I put on my seat belt and we drove off. It was a long drive so I turned on the radio and listened to some peaceful music.

When we got there, I unbuckled my seat belt speedy and I ran into Chipmunks where I saw my relatives. I saw my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandpas and grandmas.

I also saw two delicious birthday cakes. One for my brother and another one for my cousin.  Two of the cakes were chocolate and the both cakes were shaped as superheros. One of the cakes was iron man and the other cake was hulk.

A while later, my family and I went into a small room that was filled with heaps of yummy food. It is where we are going set up the party. So I put the cups and the plates around the table while my mum was getting the food ready. Then everyone came in and sat down to get ready to sing the happy birthday song.

Then it was time to dig in. There were sausages, chips, nuggets, chickens, tacos, potatoes and much more. I ate and ate until I was full. All the dishes were very delicious.

After our meal, I played in the play area. First I went to a gigantic blue slide. I climbed up the ladder quickly to get to the top of the slide. Then I slid all the way to the bottom on my back.

Later on II went to the playground. There were obstacle courses set up and it was tricky ones. However I didn't give up because I kept on trying and I finished the course surprisingly fast.

Then I went to the last game called Ball pit. There was a gun (a safe toy gun which shoots out balls) used in this game. There were two teams, a blue team and a red team. I shot the other team and soon they surrendered.

Unfortunately before we realised, it was getting day so I waved goodbye and headed to the car. When I got home, I fell on the bed and had a big sleep.

My favourite part of the day was when I was at the ball pit. I liked it because it was like a shooting and I really enjoy shooting game.

Learning Intention: We are learning to use descriptive language in our writing.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I use adverbs and descriptive language to describe my day at Chipmunks.

Swimming is my favourite sport!

I'm so exited! On a hot sunny Saturday my grandma, aunt, baby cousin, cousin and I walked to the swimming pools in Panmure. We walked from our grandma's house to the pools and it took us 15 minutes to get to the pools.

When we got inside, we paid and received our wrist bands. I took off my watch and put it in a container so that I can pick it up when we leave.

I quickly put on my swimming clothes and dived straight into the warm pool. I was diving and floating in the water. While I was floating, my grandma told my cousin and I that we were going soon.

So I hopped out of the pool and went to the outside pool. When I jumped into the water the water was freezing cold so I jumped out of the pool like a cat in hot water. Step by step, I walked into the cold water until I got use to the water.

Soon my grandma called for us to get changed so that we could go and have some lunch. I ate some ham sandwiches and a chocolate smoothie. The chocolate smoothie was cold and the ham sandwiches were  yummy.

Unfortunately soon it was time to leave so I picked up my watch and my family and I waved goodbye as we walked out of the doors.

My favourite part was when I was swimming in the inside pools. I liked it because it was easier to swim in the warm water as it wasn't freezing cold.

Learning Intention: We are learning to follow the structure of a recount.

Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the orientation, events and the conclusion about my day at the swimming pools.

I like disco lights!

On the weekend, my mum, brother and I went to pick up my cousin at his house.

We picked him up because we were having a special celebration for my other cousin’s last game of the year for his rugby league team.  When I got to his house, my mum and my brother waited in the car quietly.

I was just about to knock on the door when my cousin opened the door. He came out with his mum and said very loudly, “Bye mum!” Then I walked back to my car while chatting with my cousin.

Afterwards, my mum said that we needed to do some shopping for the party. So we went and bought some delicious food for the party. We bought some lollies and already baked chicken drumsticks. Next we went back home because some of the food that we had bought was for ourselves.

When we got home, my cousin and I grabbed his ball which he had left at my house from our last sleepover.  After a while we went back to the car to help mum to carry our shopping into the house.

After that, it was finally time to walk to the party. I didn't know where it was held at but luckily my mum knew, it was in a rugby league club which was very close to our house, so we decided to walk there. Eventually we got there but we had to wait in a really long line to reach my cousin because there were a lot of people there already.

Finally, we paid two dollars to enter the room. We got a star stamp on our hand, so that if we went outside we could show our stamp to go  back in. Once I walked inside there were a lot of people dancing to the D.J’s music. Colourful lights shone around the rugby club room. It looked really cool because it matched the beats. While I was dancing to the cool beat, my uncle arrived. I said, “Isn’t it awesome!” and my uncle replied,
“Yes!”  I smiled and I went back to the disco floor and continued to dance.

Hours later, a voice came over the radio and it said, “Sorry, the disco is about to finish.” So My mum, cousin, uncle and I went to pack up our things to go home. I had a long and fun day at the disco that day and I hope that I could go to a disco again soon.

My favourite part was when I was dancing in the disco light. I liked it because it was fun.

Learning Intention: We are learning to use descriptive language in our writing.

Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I use adverbs and descriptive language to describe my recount of my cousin's rugby league celebration.

Troll Quest is a tricky game!

I can’t wait! I woke up on Saturday morning and I made my brother and I some breakfast to eat. I prepared some warm weetbix and I did that by boiling the jug and then adding in some hot water into the weetbix. Then I added some milk and sugar to make it sweet. My brother liked it very much because he was smiling!

After breakfast, my mum and dad woke up and said loudly, ‘‘Good morning!’’  My brother and I greeted them back and then we went to brush our teeth.  Then I stayed in my room and read a book because I was bored and cold.  The book was called Geronimo Stilton and The Halloween Invitation.

I liked it because it was spooky and there was a twist at the end because there was a clown and they had to find out which one of the mice was the clown thief. It was quite a small chapter book so I had finished reading it by ten o'clock. I thought about what to do after I read the book and that’s when writing a book review popped into my head. So I ran and got a pencil and a piece of paper and started writing my book review.

Once I had finished with the book review, I put it in my drawer so no one would be able to touch it. Then I went to my mum, dad and my brother who were all watching the television quietly.  They were watching a rugby game. While they were watching the game, my cousin arrived at my house for a sleepover that night, bringing his food and sleeping bag. We played a game on the PS3 console called street fighter.

My cousin was really good at the game because he kept on winning using special powers. A while later, my mom said that we could use the computer, so we watched youtubers playing games and then we played a game called Roblox. There were more than 100 mini games on Roblox. I played a tycoon, which was called Dantdm’s tycoon lab.

While I was playing roblox, I remembered that I still needed to do my homework so I let my cousin have a turn and I went to do my homework. My homework was Xtramath and Read Theory. After that, I wrote it in my notebook so I can show my teacher that I had done my homework. Then my cousin called me to go over to him just as I put my notebook into my bag.

When I went to them, I noticed that they weren't playing Roblox, but they were playing one of my favourite computer games called Troll Quest. What I love about the game is that it’s funny and the answer to the levels are not as easy as you think it is. While we were playing troll quest, my uncle (who is 12 years old) came over to tell us that there will be a party at my house at 6 o’clock.  My family nodded our heads and said, “Yes!” Then I asked my mum and dad if I could go on my uncle's bike to his house straight away because by then it was already 5 o’clock.

My parents said, ‘‘Yes.’’ So my uncle and I went on the bike to his house. I stood on the back pedals to get there. When we both got there, I saw a lot of balloons and paintings of old singers like Elvis. When the party started, I was dancing to tap music. Unfortunately soon we had to leave early from the party, but I wasn't sure why.
When I got home, I drifted off to sleep very quickly.

My favourite part of the day was when I was playing Troll Quest.

I liked it because it was really fun.Image result for bmx bikes

I can't wait to go to the art gallery again!

I'm so excited! On Sunday, my mum and I got up at seven o’clock in the morning to attend the mass at St. Patrick’s church.

We took our time and caught the bus at 8:20am. Unfortunately our bus was late so we were late for church. When I hopped on the bus, I noticed that there were a few people on it already. We decided to sit at the front of the bus.

When we were close to our destination, I pressed the button to signal the driver to stop the bus at the next bus stop. I scanned my bus card at the machine to tag off. When we have finally reached church, we heard Father Michael talking, so we walked into church quickly and quietly. Then my mum and I saw my aunt, cousin and grandma. We both sat with them and listened to Father.

When mass ended, my mum and I went to holy communion. We showed our homework to the teacher and said a karakia. Then we sang a song called “God is”. After that, we talked about our goals journeying with God.

After Sunday school, my mum, cousin and I caught a double-decker bus and we sat at the top of the bus to go the city so that we could visit the Auckland Art Gallery. We went to the South America Space to look at the Dream Exhibition. We also met up with my mum’s friend. We got wristbands to put on and a map to show us where to go around the gallery.  We walked up the stairs and went into the first room. There were pictures of old artists and videos. Next we went to a room labelled,  “Silent Art Work”. There was only a video of a boy brushing his teeth with a loud noisy background.

Image result for pickaxeThe next room had  three sculptures of three people. One was holding a drill, another one was holding a hammer and the last one was holding a pickaxe. My favourite sculpture was the one with the pickaxe because he was posing like he's mining something. I also saw a book on the table with pictures. They were pictures of houses, people and stars that were drawn by a famous artist.

Then there was a hallway which led to a place for people who had wristbands. We had wristbands so we were allowed to take a look. When we first walked inside, we saw masks that looked like monkeys. My favourite mask was coloured black and I liked it because it had a mirror where when you looked into the eyes of the mask, you could see the reflection of your eyes.

Then in the second room, there was a small fountain that was made out of real clean dog bones. On the right of the room, there were a lot of beads and they formed the shape of a tongue. While we were looking at it, a man walked in and said that there will be a lady performing in ten minutes.

We were quite far away from where the performance was going to be so we rushed to get there. We made it just in time and we saw a lady in a blue dress dancing.  When the dance ended, she asked everyone to stand up and dance with her. I was a bit embarrassed because I'm not very good at dancing but it was a lot of fun.
After a little while, I asked my mum for permission to play in the kids room and she said, “Yes.” There were blocks that we could use to build with in the kids’ room. I built a tower and it was blue and tall. Soon we had to go back to my mum and her friend because the day was about to end. So my mum, her friend and my cousin caught the elevator down to the first floor and walked to the train station which was two streets away.

When we got off the train, we said, ‘“Bye!” to my mum’s friend and caught the bus to my aunt's house to drop off my cousin.  Then we finally caught the bus home.

My favourite part of the day was when I played in the kids’ room because I liked it because my tower looked really awesome.

Learning intention: We are learning to understand and use descriptive language.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I use adverbs and adjectives to describe my weekend at the Auckland Art Gallery.
