Have you played a netball game before?

Today is Friday, Room 7 and I stood in front of our netball coach (Tina) and her sister for our last Netball session.

We were split into two groups. I was the goal attack and my team was called the Dab. Before we started our game of Netball, we all got in a small little circle and cheered for our team! I stood behind the line at the end of the court with one of the other team’s player (Goal Defence).

First, our team had the ball so we kept on passing the ball until our Goal Shoot went for a shot, but unfortunately we missed.  Then the other team went to pass the ball but fortunately one of our players blocked the other team from getting the ball and passing the ball to their Goal Shoot then goal shoot went for the shoot and got it in.

Then it was half time went and I gave my position to my friend and I watched them.  Sadly meanwhile when they were playing the other class came. So we had to stop and said our full team name which was the seven stars. It was a short game but it was fun because we used all our skills that we learnt to v.s each other in game.

My favourite part of the day was when we had keep passing the ball.

I can't wait to go and visit my aunty again!

One fine Saturday morning in May, I  was the first to wake up in my family so I went to make myself some breakfast in the kitchen. I had some rice bubbles with milk then I watched a movie on tv called Turbo. I liked the movie Turbo because it was awesome. Turbo (the snail) had to race against race cars in a tournament and he won by rolling as fast as he could until he reached the finish line.

After a while, my dad and brother woke up and had some breakfast. Later on we got ready to visit my aunt who lives in Glen Innes. We went in a black car and it took us only 5 minutes to get there because we live close to her. We also bought two boxes of pizza on the way there. We had pepperoni and hawaiian pizza.

When we got to my aunt’s house, I hopped out of the car as fast as I can and ran to knock on the door. My aunt opened it and said ‘Hi!’. I said “Hi, too!” We got inside and watched tv. Then, my dad asked me if I wanted some pizza but I replied and said, “ No,  thanks”.
While I waited for them to finish eating the pizza,  I continued watching tv before leaving.  Just when we were about to leave we got asked if we would like  play soccer for a bit. I was pleased and excited! So we went in the front lawn to start our game of soccer.  It was me and my dad against my brother and my aunt.

I first had the ball so I went for the kick. And on my first try I scored a goal. My  team kept on kicking and scoring goals. Sadly it was getting late so we said our goodbye to my aunt  then we went home. I was very tired in the end but I had a lot of fun and I wish that we could visit aunty every weekend.

Do you know how to play netball?

I can’t wait! Today is Friday the 6th of May 2016 and my class and I went to the top court at St Patrick’s School for our first Netball session.

We had two netball coaches Tina and Mark. Tina said that we could call her T for short. The first activity that we had was we shared our name, age and what we wanted to be when we grow up. I want to be a brave astronaut. We warmed up by running the length of the court.

Then we did some lunges, we crouched down, then up and took a step forward to stretch our legs. I felt like a turtle because it took a long time. Tina gave us a netball and we had to pass the ball to each other. We chest passed the ball to each other without dropping it because if we drop the ball, we had to start again from the beginning. It took us a few tries but at the end we did it perfectly.

Next we hopped on one leg, folded our arms and had to try and knock our partner off balance. The person who gets knocked, has to land with both of their legs. My partner won two times in a row. Then we switched and had a new partner.

In the next exercise, we passed the ball to our partners and step back each time we threw the ball. My partner and I had trouble catching the ball, but we got better the more we practised. After that, we had to go into a group of three and one of us had to chest pass to the person on the right side (which meant that he had to  pass diagonally to the right). It was hard for us but we had fun learning the activity.

Lastly my class got into three lines and we passed the ball to the left line and ran to join the line on the right side of us. We repeated this for a little whole. At the end of the session, we decided to give our class a team name called rock solid.

I was really tired at the end but I had a lot of fun. My favourite part was when we went in a group of three. I enjoyed it because we learnt a lot of Netball skills.

Learning intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the structure of a recount: orientation, followed by the events and then a conclusion of my first Netball session.
